A STEM Forum held pre-covid brought representatives from industry, schools and organisations involved in STEM promotion from across the region together in SETU. The purpose of the event was to capture some of the key STEM needs of the region and to learn how Calmast can play a more active co-ordinating role for STEM activities in the future. In general, there was converging consensus amongst the Forum participants for the need and support for a Regional STEM Hub. All participants recognised the need for STEM to be for all and that it needs to move beyond just education institutions and events and embed within communities.
If we can leverage our partner’s networks, we had a far wider reach than an individual endeavour we could develop on our own. Calmast was identified to act as an ‘honest broker’ and now work has begun on the development and implementation strategy to South-East STEM Hub. A Wexford STEM HUB was formed with regular meetings taking place.
